Redwings Handboard Championships 2006 : The 2006 Redwings Memorial Handboarding Championships were held in inconsistent 2 to 3 ft + surf at Point Panic,O`ahu.Contest organizer Mike Kliks allowed many heats to extend beyond their allotted time to give contestants a better chance to meet the three wave minimum.
There were many free-swim periods in between heats keeping non-contestants cool and calm while waiting for the contest to end.
The Grand Champion title was awarded to Point Panic regular Pedro Refuerzo while the 2006 Pro title was won by surf photographer Wyatt Tilloson. Both finals were very competitive. In the Women's Open Division Mealoha Hooten took top honors .Congradulations to all.
 Aloha,Doug.

June 3, 2006 : 2nd day of a moderate Antarctic swell.Awesome weather and surf conditions.Crowd control needed when the count reaches 6 bodysurfers in the line-up.(Just kidding!)Although as good as it was, the afternoon session gang found a reason to drop in on each other. If you look in the background at some of the photos you will see the amount of space that was available between each bodysurfer.Good swell, great conditions!

Boat Stranded on Point Panic's Reef : Another fishing boat got hung up on the Point Panic reef on Monday,Aug 14.Unfortunately it was during the beginning of a rising 1 to 3 ft south swell. The Princess K was kept from crashing onto Kakaako Park's rock walls by the US Coast Gaurd who passed the task of pulling the 65 ft. metal hulled, fully fuelled, fishing trawler off the coral beds to a private professional salvage company. It took nearly 6 hours to gently turn, tug, and float the ship into the nearby Kewalo channel. No boat parts or fuel seepage was evident after the ships removal from Point Panic's reef.Excellent job!
Photos of the reef were taken a few days later showing where the boat had traveled during it's recovery.
